iPod go boom

I have bad news about my cute pink iPod, which I've not even had for a whole year. I'm pretty sure it's dead, with no hope of recovery.

I dropped it on the pavement as I was walking out to my car Saturday... I slipped on a patch of ice and momentarily lost my grip.

I've tried resetting it and doing other variations of the remedies listed in the iPod user's manual. However, all my iPod wants to do is charge... nothing more. I can't connect it or look at music, and of course, listening to music is out of the question.

I'm so sad that it's gone... and yet, it feels incredibly silly to say it. It's just that... well, I listened to it all the time! In my car, while running, during my side job in my friend's home office.

The motto? Hold on to your mp3 players. They're obviously not made to last!

You know I'll give it a shot, Sar!

Worst case, the drive is dead from the shock.

Okay Rob, let's do surgery on my iPod this weekend... or maybe I should say, "I'll watch while you do surgery on my iPod this weekend." I know it will be in good hands!

Aw, thanks, Mel! Can I assume you like pink as well? :-) The other day Rob said, "...hmmm, you don't like pink, do you?" I was shocked- "What? I love pink!" I don't know where he got that. :-)

bake, take it to the apple store.... a co-worker of mine just dropped her iPod mini and it stopped working. she took it to the apple store, played dumb about why it stopped working... and voila! they gave her a new nano. it was about a year old and the reason why it quit working was completely her fault....

anyway, give it a shot. it can't hurt.

Sara's right, take it back. I "dropped" my cell phone a while back, took it back to be repaired & they gave me a new one. Never hurts to ask...

Rob, don't forget to document the procedure with photos. We all need a blog post from you on the outcome.

UPDATE: Sar doubted my mad tech skillz, so we took it to Apple. She scored big -- they gave her a new one!

No, I only got another pink Mini... but I'm not complaining! Amazingly enough, the technician was in such a hurry, he didn't even ask about the cause of damage. The guy just got out a new one and handed it to me! Amazing! I definitely need a hard rubber case for my Mini so if I drop it again, it won't be damaged!

Another bonus: Rob took back a defective Apple mouse at the same time, and the guy just switched out his old mouse for a new one.

I'll shop at the Apple store again- the store was BEAUTIFUL and hypnotic; all that white! :-)
